Venelia I

This statue stele head was discovered in 1936 on a property owned by Giarelli in the area of Groppolungo, between the cemetery of Monti di Licciana and the Taverone River (Licciana Nardi, MS), while tilling the soil for cultivation. It belongs to Group B and can therefore be attributed to the Eneolithic period (between 3400/3300 and 2300/2000 BC). The face is depicted with a wide, almost perfectly rounded band, and the short and thick neck is truncated-conical. From the upper part of the face, there is a raised segment representing the nose, and the eyes, in relief, are placed in the corners formed by the nose and eyebrows. The lower part of the head tapers slightly, possibly indicating the chin. Two cup marks, located on the sides of the face, represent the ears or earrings.

It is preserved at the Museum of Pontremoli.
