Malgrate IV
This sandstone head of a stele statue was likely found near Malgrate (Villafranca in Lunigiana, MS) at the beginning of the century. Before being placed as a finial on a fountain built in 1907 in the locality of Canaletto in Malgrate, this head had been kept in a cellar. It was only recognized in 1968. It belongs to Group B and can be dated back to the Eneolithic period (between 3400/3300 and 2300/2000 BC). The head has lateral expansions and a rather thick cylindrical neck. The face is barely visible because the date 1907 was engraved on it. Between the zero and the nine, the shape of a rectangular nose can be discerned. On the neck, a raised line possibly represents a metal collar.
It is preserved at the Museum of Pontremoli, where a cast is also located.
